Indigo Books & Music Inc. are currently in final talks with a number of E-Book Reader manufacturers and will be choosing one to launch as their own here in Canada by the end of this year. This according to the company's founder and CEO Heather Reisman who appeared on Canada AM this morning for her annual summer reads selection. While chatting with myself back-stage she divulged the company's plans, willing only to confirm that it won't be the Sony Reader, already available and supported by Sony's own online E-Book store, nor Amazon's Kindle which has yet to find a launch in Canada.
Instead the retailer will launch their own service, one that will follow on the heels of their successful ShortCovers service, launched earlier this year. ShortCovers is a mobile app, currently available as a free download for the iPhone 3G, iPod Touch through Apple's Apps Store, the latest generation of BlackBerry devices through RIM's App World, and for Android-powered devices including the HTC Dream and HTC Magic which launched today, through the Android Market. ShortCovers transforms mobile handsets into an E-Book reader, offering a preview service where users can download sample chapters from tens of thousands of books in order to help them decide whether to make the purchase. The service also includes a number of full-length classics available for free.
Since the launch of the Sony Reader, the first such device in this market, Canadians have shown an incredible interest in books in digital forms. The unavailability of the Kindle is a hot topic that I continue to get e-mails on each week. The Kindle's reliance on a wireless network will continue to keep the device from getting a Canadian launch. Knowing this well, Resiman and her company are moving quickly to meet that demand.

LE NOUVEAU KINDLE DX D'AMAZON EST SORTIE
Ecran 9.7" ( 16 niveau de gris), mode auto portrait / landscape, lecteur PDF, 3G sans fil, plusieurs jours de batterie text to speech. Le prix est de 489$US par rapport au Kindle de 6" à 359$US. Il devrait être disponible sur le marché à l'été 2009.
